Overview

The final 101 km of the spectacular Portuguese Camino. While the French Route gets more press (and more pilgrims), the Portuguese Route may in fact be the more scenic, with views of the coastline and villages closer to shore. It is a great pilgrimage for those inclined to contemplation and the appreciation of nature.

Difficulty:

Moderate - Most days consist of rolling ups and downs with no steep climbs. Tree-lined, dirt roads alternate with paved roads throughout the route. To provide the best hiking terrain and scenery possible, we provide an 11km transfer from Orbenlle to the outskirts of O Porriņo (the side closest to Redondela) to avoid hiking in a large industrial area. There are a few steep climbs during the hike up to Arcade which takes place on either day 2 or 3 depending on hotel availability. The views are absolutely worth it. Along the steepest ascents you're hiking on quiet, dirt roads overlooking the ocean, fishing villages and mountains in the distance. Incredible!

Equipment:

Maps and route descriptions are included in the tour cost. You should provide your own daypack and, optionally, trekking poles.

Accommodations:

Standard accommodations consist of three-star hotels, traveler hotels and pensions. All rooms contain private en suite bathrooms. We spend a lot of time finding the best available hotels with local charm, friendly proprietors, and excellent locations.

Upgraded accommodations consist of four-star hotels, spas, and manor houses. All accommodations (standard and superior) are in walking distance. No transfer is necessary, and therefore, no additional transfer costs are included in the accommodation price. Upgrade option is available for each night of the Portuguese Way.
