Overview

In your six days of walking over the final 111 km (about 70 miles) of the French Route you will experience a great variety of landscape and environments. Your first three days out from Sarria take you through lovely rural countryside, across babbling brooks and farms. Depending on the season, you may go for hours seeing only the occasional fellow peregrino. The end of your third day you will arrive at the larger city of Melide, with its legendary pulpo (octopus) restaurants, and lively town squares. Departing Melide on the fourth day, you return to the lovely countryside, and will encounter larger groups as they converge on the destination of Santiago de Compostela, a world class cultural city with many markets and restaurants surrounding the stunning Romanesque Cathedral. These six days of hiking have very little elevation gain, and can be done at a leisurely pace. The trail is very well-marked and there is no need for GPS. You will receive city maps in the trip guide you receive from us.

Difficulty:

Moderate - Most days consist of rolling ups and downs with no steep climbs.

Equipment:

Maps and route descriptions are included in the tour cost. You should provide your own daypack and, optionally, trekking poles. Make sure you have comfortable (well broken in) walking/hiking shoes, and bring along some moleskin for blisters, just in case.

Accommodations:

Zephyr offers two accommodation packages: upgraded and standard. Upgraded accommodations consist of four-star hotels, spas, and manor houses. These are mostly right on the Camino, but in a few cases may require a short transfer by taxi, which is included in the upgrade price. On this tour, we use one pension in the city of Melide (where the food is a key attraction) but where no other upgrade lodging options exist. The upgraded accommodation after the second walking day is either a beautiful rural B&B or a full featured spa.

Standard accommodations consist of three-star hotels, traveler hotels and pensions. All rooms contain private en suite bathrooms. We spend a lot of time finding the best available hotels with local charm, friendly proprietors, and excellent locations.

Price:

All prices below are in US dollars, per person, for a minimum group size of two. The Base Price for all adventures includes a Pre-Departure Packet, double occupancy accommodations in three-star hotels, breakfasts, welcome meeting with our in-country staff, luggage transfers, maps, route directions, emergency support phone line. Dinners, lunches, personal expenditures, and transportation to and from the tour are not included. See our Pricing Page for full details on our Base and Supplemental prices and information on travelers going solo.
